FAQs

Does Traut offer foreign language?

Spanish and Chinese classes are offered at Traut. Spanish classes take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:05-4:00pm and Chinese classes take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:05- 4:00pm.

Who can take the classes?

Any student in kindergarten through fifth grade may take a foreign language class, including students who do not attend Traut (home school students, for example). Preference is given to Traut students in cases where classes are full.

Who teaches the classes?

Classes are taught by fluent speakers with teaching experience and/or certified foreign language teachers.

What is the student to teacher ratio?

Foreign language classes average 8-10 students per class. Is there a curriculum or textbook used in the classes? Spanish classes have a sequential K-5th grade curriculum that is based on the textbook that the school district uses in first year Spanish classes. Chinese classes use a series of books and in some classes, CDs or an online program that help to teach the language.

When do classes start and end?

All classes begin in early September and conclude in either April or May. See the schedule for further information.

How many classes are conducted each school year?

Spanish conducts 50 classes during the school year (25 each semester). Chinese conducts 60 classes during the school year (25 first semester and 35 second semester).  How much does it cost? Please see the class Registration Information Form for the current fees.

Who do I pay?

Checks should be made out to “TCKS” with your child’s name, grade, and language class written on the memo line. Checks should be given to Traut’s Office Manager. Online payments (Debit/Credit) are now accepted using SchoolPay (fee accessed): https://psdschools.schoolpay.com

Are there scholarships available?

Scholarships are not available.

Can I volunteer in the foreign language programs?

Of course! We welcome any and all registered parent volunteers in the foreign language classrooms. In addition, you may become involved in the Foreign Language Committee by contacting flprogram.tcks@gmail.com or the Traut office.
