Odyssey of the Mind – Coaches Needed!
Odyssey of the Mind (OM) is BACK at Traut and we need your help! OM is an international program that teaches creative problem solving, teamwork, and performance skills in an environment of fun competition. Students develop self-confidence and form new friendships. Teams of students (either K-2 or 3-5) will meet weekly from October-March to prepare for the state tournament, where they will perform in front of parents and peers. They’ll work to present their solution to a long-term problem, as well as prepare for a spontaneous problem that will be assigned on the day of the tournament. Students learn to solve their own problems, work together, and have fun in the process.
Odyssey of the Mind depends on parent and family volunteers to serve as coaches, judges, and tournament volunteers. The program cannot run without the generosity of parents and other family members who volunteer their time. There is no prior experience required to be a coach (or co-coach). Training and support are provided.
If you are interested in coaching an OM team this year, please reach out to Caity Sahimi (email@example.com) by Tuesday, September 6. The number of coaches we have will determine how many teams are able to participate this year. The time commitment includes a Saturday training in late September/early October, weekly meetings after school for an hour (either Tuesday or Wednesday), and a Saturday tournament in mid-March.
